French 3308A/B – Special Topics in Translation: Machine Translation

This course is designed for students with a strong knowledge of French language and an interest in translation, linguistics and/or computational linguistics. Topics include brief history of Machine Translation since the 50s, and an overview of Machine Translation systems, translation memories, translator databases, and Internet resources. Critical analyses of translation outputs by various programs and assessments of human vs. machine translations will be conducted. Antirequisite(s): The former French 3202. Prerequisite(s): Both French 2905A/B and French 2906A/B, or French 2900, or permission of the Department of French Studies, based on Placement Test. Corequisite(s): Pre-or Corequisite(s): Extra Information: 3 lecture/tutorial hours, 0.5 course. May NOT be taken concurrently with French 2300, 2305A/B, or 2306A/B. back to top
