This course examines how health care in Canada is related to social processes and social structure. We will investigate how the health care system in Canada is organized to respond to health and illness. Various occupations within the health care division of labour will be studied. This will be followed by an examination of key institutions involved in the provision of health care, both public and private. Finally, the role of the state in the health care system and various strategies of health reform will be examined. Antirequisite(s): Sociology 2245 or former Health Sciences 245.
