History 3422F/G – Ever Closer? The European Union in Historical Context

This course explores the historical roots of European integration. The first half of the twentieth century brought unprecedented destruction to Europe; the postwar years witnessed the construction of a successful supranational organization, the European Union (EU). We will explain this apparently dramatic reversal and the end of fierce inter-state rivalry. Antirequisite(s): History 3496F/G taken in 2009-2010 and 2010-2011.
